A Brief History of Rugby Union Rugby originated out of an early form of football not unlike football today but a much cruder form of the game full of rough and tumble with no limits to the number of players on each side and not too much in the way of rules players were allowed to catch and kick the ball with their hands.
they weren’t allowed to run with it and that was pretty much it Legend has it that in 1823 a young lad by the name of William Webb Ellis didn’t care too much for this rule either and so during a game of football at the rugby School in the town of rugby warshire England caught the ball and ran with it towards the opponent’s goal line the idea caught on and rugby students spread the game’s gospel across England.

How To Play Rugby

In the competitive sport of rugby, two teams of fifteen players try their best to kick or carry the ball to the end goal to gain points. The teams play for two 40-minute halves, with a five-minute halftime or no time-outs. The referee controls the game. The team that flips a coin to determine the side that gets their ball first kicks it off in the middle of the field. Once the ball is in play, the team advancing toward the goal tries to score.
The ball is not transferred A team can only go forward by passing or kicking the ball, and it can only be passed backward or perpendicularly. The person in possession of the ball passes it to their teammates while moving ahead to score a try. A try is worth five points and is scored when a player puts a ball to the ground in the opponent’s tri-zone. Following a try, the scoring side can score two more points by kicking the ball over the opponent’s goal and in between the goal posts.
When a player is tackled, they must pass or release the ball immediately. Alternatively, both teams can fight to win the ball off the ground and take possession. The opposing team tries to prevent the player with the ball from moving forward or scoring a try by tackling the player in an attempt to gain possession of the ball.
This typically occurs as a rock When one or three players from each team lock into one another directly above the ball and a player who has been tackled, they push each other back and forth until one team can gain possession.
