Jordan Mason Dominates the NFL

300 of these yards came after contact, which leads the league. At 511 pounds and 223 pounds, he is also built to handle Shanahan’s workload. Jordan Mason kept dissecting NFL defenses last week when the Patriots were around. Mason is a perfect fit for Shanahan’s offense, which primarily relies on the outside zone scheme. For example, in this play, the blocking involves a lineman stepping the play side and attempting to get vertical, allowing Mason to read the defense and the gaps forming. Mason is reading both the second-layer player and the Colt McKivitz man, and as soon as he sees the former, he kicks it inside.

Jordan Mason’s Outside Zone Success Fueled By Counter-Tie Play

His ability to press these gaps on the plate, for example, almost gives the impression that he is shooting inwards before breaking outside, but this works to funnel the defense toward the middle of the field and freeze the second-layer players, which allows Mason to bounce outside another play Mason’s had a lot of success on this year. His indicator is to bounce outside, which he does, and he picks up 16 on this play. Another thing that makes him so effective in this outside zone scheme is his offensive linemen blocking this play more like a zone, but the backfield appears to be a counter when he bounces outside. It’s a counter-tie play.

Jordon Mason Shines as a Powerful Runner

To further illustrate this point, on Third and Seven, when the Patriots know the runs are coming to the end of the game, he can get the edge and just turn on the Jets. I know some people will still say a faster back may have scored. He’s a lot more athletic than people give him credit for. For example, on the split zone run, most backs would have been brought down by this defensive end arm tackle, but Mason, who terrorizes defenses and is rarely brought down by the first tackler, almost seems not to have slowed down on this play. Instead of dancing around, he strikes the defense and gains a few more yards.

With his balance of contact, Mason is a great ball carrier, but this play also demonstrated his skill as a receiver. he runs an angle route and cooks this backer in man coverage. Mason can avoid all of this and gain an extra yard.

Jordon Mason injury

Due to Christian McCaffrey’s calf and Achilles ailments, Jordan Mason has had an incredible and unexpected year. Mason has been playing brilliantly. but sadly, he was hurt tonight after landing hard on his shoulder.
