Early Life and a Teenage Prodigy

After growing up in Torrance, California, Chloe Kim first picked up snowboarding at the age of four, though her competitive snowboarding career did not start until age six. Kim began her training with the Mammoth Mountain team in California, having also spent some time in Switzerland during the early stages of her training. While her early age barred her from qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, she did win the superpipe event at the 2015 X Games at 14, at that time the youngest to do so, while competing against Clark in both.

Chloe Kim Olympic Gold in 2018 and 2022

After carrying the Stars and Stripes at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics, Kim was the first snowboarder to hold the flag for Team USA at either a Youth or Winter Games, where she captured double gold. She was the youngest female to earn Olympic gold in snowboarding, winning the women’s halfpipe at age 17 in PyeongChang in 2018. Kim defended her crown in 2022 in Beijing, as the first snowboarder to win consecutive women’s halfpipe golds.

Princeton, a Break, and Mental Health

She attended Princeton University after her 2018 Games breakthrough, and she told the press she was drained and needed time to come down from her sudden stardom. After Princeton, Chloe Kim went back to the sport of snowboarding full-time, and has since gone on to become one of the sport’s more visible advocates for mental wellness and self-care at the elite levels of the sport.

Chloe Kim The 2026 Milano Cortina Games

When she came to the Milano Cortina Games, Chloe Kim was still the heavy favorite to win the gold medal in the halfpipe event. A dislocated shoulder earlier this year had put her participation at risk, but she was easily the fastest qualifier in that event, and then earned the silver medal in the finals when South Korea’s Choi Ga-on bested her by 1.00 points for a total of 88.00. 2025 saw Kim earn the title of first woman in the world to perform a double cab cork 1080 while at the Laax Open. Finally, she won the title of Laureus World Action Sportswoman of the Year in April 2026.

Chloe Kim Off the Snow

In between competition cycles, Kim has used her status as the face of action sports to land several fashion campaigns including her outerwear line with Roxy and partnerships with eBay and Vogue. In 2025 she confirmed her relationship with NFL defensive end Myles Garrett which drew the media’s focus to her while both were in attendance of the 2026 Winter Games.

Chloe Kim Net Worth and Earnings

Like all the profiles we write, there are areas of speculation. Chloe Kim’s net worth has not been officially reported. Forbes ranked her as the 4th highest earning athlete during the 2026 Winter Games, and an unofficial source stated that she had $4 million in total earnings. This is an estimate of a single year’s earnings rather than her actual net worth. It is not possible for us to confirm this with the actual Forbes article, so please view all numbers online as estimates rather than actual numbers.

Chloe Kim Fun Facts

  • She is the first person to have competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympics as a snowboarder.
  • At only 14, she was the youngest person ever to earn gold in the X Games superpipe, which included the sport’s previously undisputed champion Kelly Clark.
  • In 2019, she began attending Princeton University, and in doing so became one of the few Olympians to do so.

Chloe Kim Teenage X Game

For 10 years, women’s halfpipe has belonged to Chloe Kim. In 2018 and 2022, she defended her Olympic titles and took home the silver medal at her third Olympic Games while competing through an injury. Her lack of success at the Milano Cortina Games was disappointing, but certainly did not diminish the dominance that has made her the gold standard in the sport, and will likely never challenge her reign, especially now that the sport of snowboarding is being recognized by the Laureus Foundation.
