In Interview Sheetal talked about this. There was a time when you tried to get prosthetics; technically, that could not be done. Then what was going through your mind, you were sad, you were a little down, I got arms fitted and I thought that they would be of some use, but they did not work at all and they were heavy. When I got them fitted, I liked them. Later, when I started wearing them, they seemed heavy, so I did not get them fitted. Then something happened to you and you became sad that friend, this was an option, it did not happen or you looked at it that no problem, this thing is not happening, I am better than I am. All these things would be different, yes, I thought that if nothing happened with these then I should do something good in the future.

Sheetal Devi neither gave up in childhood nor made any excuses on big occasions. How did you go towards archery? I heard that you used to climb trees very easily, so from there, someone came to know that you have athletic ability. Since childhood, you have used to climb trees with other children. First, at home, we used to go to school and play with friends. We used to make a wooden bow for playing like this, we did not know that a bow existed. Then later when I went to Bangalore for treatment, I met Preeti there, and she told me about sports, I already had the strength, well I used to do everything with my feet already and I do it even today. What did you do? Earlier, with your feet, that means writing, scrolling on mobile, and everything, yes, reading, writing, using mobile. Everything was done with great difficulty.

Sheetal Devi Coach Kuldeep Vedwan

Sheetal’s coach Kuldeep Vedwan prepared a special kit for her in which she could do everything through her feet and mouth. Sheetal started aiming with accuracy. She won two gold and one silver medal in the Asian Para Games held in China in 2023. She also managed to win a silver medal in the World Archery Para Championship. After winning the Asian Para Games medal, PM Modi met Sheetal along with other players. Poverty and lack of hands could have been excuses to stop her from moving forward, but Sheetal did not make excuses and planted her feet and aimed with her feet only. I want to give this message that one should never lose courage. No matter what happens, one should not lose courage. One should have faith in oneself and just do it and show it.
