WPL and a rapid selection. At the 2024 auction, Delhi Capitals acquired her for ₹55 lakh. As noted by ESPN, her participation in WPL 2025 was limited, yet India still opted for her in the World Cup squad, selecting her over more experienced players such as Radha Yadav.

September 2026: The Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games took place in September 2026. In the Asia Cup, Sree Charani captured 12 wickets, including an impressive 4 for 20 in the final. This was the eighth consecutive win in the Women’s Asia Cup for India. Sree captured 4 for 10 in her outing at the Asian Games against Japan. In the final, Sree captured 2 for 13, and India beat Sri Lanka by 147 runs to secure a gold medal. As per the ICC, in the same final Smriti Mandhana made a rapid 79 off 46 deliveries to pair with Shafali Verma, and the opening pair captured 99 runs for their partnership. At the same Games, 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod won India’s first individual recurve gold.

Sree Charani’s T20I stats

Wisden wrote in late September 2026 that Sree had taken 62 T20I wickets at an average of 12.56 with an economy of 6.32 after 33 matches. She held the record for most wickets taken by a bowler representing a Full Member over that time frame. The record will continue to change, so you should check her ESPNcricinfo profile to find her up-to-date ODI and T20I stats.

What the 817 rating actually means

ICC rating points reflect recent form and the strength of the opposition. Her rating of 817 surpasses Schutt’s 2018 record of 806 and Sophie Ecclestone’s previous record of 802 in 2023. At this point, Deepti Sharma and Ecclestone follow Charani at 754 and 723 ratings, respectively. Charani leads by 63 points ahead of Sharma, her fellow teammate from India.

One caveat to consider is that Charani’s record was primarily formed over a narrow period at the Asia Cup and Asian Games, where one of the host nations was Japan. Even though the ICC has an adjustment factor for the quality of opposition, the record still covers only one month and thus isn’t as extensive as a full home-and-away season. The Raipur series, followed by ODIs in Baroda, will show whether she can hold the rating against steadier opposition.

What is next for Sree Charani

The BCCI recently announced India will be hosting Zimbabwe for 3 T20I matches, taking place in Raipur on Oct 16th, 18th and 20th, and 3 ODI matches in Baroda on Oct 23rd, 25th and 28th. Mandhana is the T20I captain for India and Shafali is vice-captain for India, while Charani is part of the T20I India squad. The league background is in our WPL explainer.
